Welcome

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is a
well-established, national organisation with more than 85,000 members, which aims to promote traditional real
ale and pubs.
CAMRA is organised into local branches run by volunteers; you have reached the home page of the
York branch, Yorkshire's oldest. We cover an extensive geographical area, which includes
Selby, Tadcaster and rural parts of North and East Yorkshire, as well as the city of York itself. Our 600 members
participate in a lively programme of social events, produce a regular
newsletter and stage an annual
beer festival.
Any feedback on the site or queries about York CAMRA should be directed to the appropriate contact.

“Put together by CAMRA, it's the definitive rundown of the best places in the UK to get a pint of real ale, from cosy country inns to upmarket style bars.” - Time Out
The Good Beer Guide is more than just a pub guide. Britain's longest-running and best-selling guide contains Britain's best pubs for real ale. But for beer lovers it also gives up-to-date information on the country's beers and breweries. It's compiled by 82,000 dedicated volunteers in the Campaign for Real Ale. There are no fees for listings, and every pub is checked many times a year.
The Good Beer Guide offers:
The best pubs in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man that serve cask-conditioned real ale in tip-top condition.
Full details of beer, food, entertainment, family facilities, history and architecture for the pub entries.
The unique Breweries section that lists all the breweries - micro, regional and national - that produce cask beer, with tasting notes compiled by CAMRA-trained tasting teams. There's also information about beers suitable for vegetarians and vegans, as well as the growing number of organic beers. The Guide lists new breweries, closed breweries, mergers and takeovers, and keeps track of the new, powerful pub groups.

For the first time CAMRA's 85,000 strong membership will be able to rate the quality of beer available in pubs using a new online National Beer Scoring Scheme (NBSS).
To find out more about the NBSS click here. Now CAMRA members' are able to fill the details in online at www.beerscoring.org.uk, making the process quicker and easier than ever before.
NBSS Co-ordinator and CAMRA Director Brett Laniosh says it is the simplest way for CAMRA members to give feedback on the state of beer in British pubs as the website can be accessed at any time.
Brett Laniosh added: “The scheme is only open to CAMRA members, so if you are passionate about real ale and would like to get involved, why not sign up to our organisation today and help 84,000 dedicated real ale lovers to find the best pubs and beer in Britain.”

- 20 pubs are closing every month?
- 8 out of 10 pints served contain less than 100% liquid?
- small brewers struggle to find a market for their products?
Of course you don't and nor do we. To find out more about real ale, campaign for
greater consumer choice and help to safeguard the future of British beer and pubs
join CAMRA, today and help us get to
our target of 100,000 members.
