York Beer & Cider Festival 2010 The most common question I was asked following on from the successful Beer and Cider Festival at the Knavesmire was “will you be doing it again next year?” The answer is YES. We have booked the site and planning has just started. We aim to have a larger tent, so more people can get in (hopefully preventing the queues) and plenty more glasses! Whilst we cannot guarantee the weather will be as good as last year, we will have plenty of seating available inside the tent to cope if it rains. The festival is at the same time of year as before – from Thursday 16th–Sunday 18th September. The range of beers will be at least as large as last year (200) and there will be plenty more cider and perry (at least twice as much). The foreign beer was very popular last time, so that will return along with wine and soft drinks. In 2009 25% of our beer came from breweries within 25 miles of the festival site highlighting just how lucky we are in York with the quality and variety of local breweries. We hope to match this again with a LocAle bar to showcase these beers. We will also have beers from across Yorkshire and further afield, with all styles represented, so there will be plenty to try. A large part of last year’s success was down to all the hard work of the volunteer staff – no one is paid to work at the festival. It’s great fun and if you’re a CAMRA member and haven’t worked at a festival before why not try being the other side of the bar and working a session? Staff get a beer / cider and food allowance – after all, they need to be able to try the product on offer to know what to recommend! As the planning for the festival progresses more information will appear in Ouse Boozer and on our festival website. Melissa Reed, Beer Festival Organiser Full report on 2009's event. There is a dedicated beer festival website here. |
