York Beer & Cider Festival 2009

Beer festival logo

The Knavesmire (Tadcaster Road end) is the new venue for an expanded York Beer & Cider Festival to be held in September. The increased capacity means we will be able to offer up to 200 beers, 30 ciders and perries and a foreign beer bar, with wine and soft drinks also available. The festival will run from Thursday September 17th (opening at 4 pm) to Saturday 19th (all day opening on Friday and Saturday from midday). Admission will be £3 for non-members; CAMRA members get in free on Thursday, £1 at all other times.

This is an exciting expansion for the branch which we hope will be enjoyed by people from York and beyond. There’ll be live music on the Friday and Saturday evenings as well as a good range of food from mainly local caterers and other stalls. There’ll be a large amount of seating – inside the tent if it’s wet, with some outside if the weather’s good. Children are welcome during the afternoon sessions.

If you’re a CAMRA member (or if not, why not join?) please consider coming to volunteer at the festival and be in on this new venture from the start. There are all sorts of different jobs available from helping to set up the site (and earn beer tokens to enjoy while the event is open) to working during the festival and of course taking the site down at the end. Jobs during the festival are varied, not just serving the beer and cider. All volunteers will get free food and drinks for their efforts. Contact Karl Smith to get your name on the list.

The festival site is less than 15 minutes from York Station and is served by regular buses (12 Woodthorpe, 4 FTR Acomb, 13/13A Copmanthorpe and the Coastliner).

There is a dedicated beer festival website here, where you will find much more information.
