Calling all young members! Love real ale? Enjoy drinking in real British pubs? Wish you could meet like-minded people? Now you can! I’m Matt Grant, and I am your Branch Young Members Contact (BYMC). We hold a regular monthly meeting at 8pm, visiting a different venue each month (see the Socials page and below for details) so that we can support more local pubs, sample and discuss more beers and make it easier for members from the whole York area to join us. We also arrange varied socials, including trips to rural pubs, walks and curry nights, and when the time comes, we’ll help with the York Beer Festival. CAMRA’s definition of a Young Member is a person under 30. My role as BYMC means that I am responsible for ensuring the branch considers the needs of young members when planning campaigning and social events. I will communicate with national and regional Young Members Contacts in order to keep abreast of special campaigns and promotions, and act on behalf of young members during the main branch meetings to promote our views in the branch. With suggestions and input from Young Members and young people, we hope this page will grow into a more informative and exciting part of the website. So if you want more information on any of the issues covered, have ideas for subjects you'd like to see on this page or want to get involved please get in touch with me. Don’t just think about it – come along and get involved! Social Events We aim to hold regular events, which can be anything from a local crawl or brewery tour to an adventure further affield! We try to do something different each time, so if you have any suggestions, please let me know! Please contact me to find out what is happening over the next few months. Tuesday May 13th – Monthly meeting at Sun Inn, Acomb, 8pm. Saturday May 24th - trip to Rudgate Brewery, Tockwith. Depart Memorial Gardens, Leeman Road at midday. Leave brewery approx. 4pm. Cost £5 for buffet and several pints of ale + cost of transport (TBC). Wednesday June 11th – Monthly meeting at Swan, Clementhorpe. Saturday June 28th – Country pub survey trip by minibus. Wednesday July 9th – Monthly meeting at Ye Olde Starre Inn, Stonegate. Saturday July 19th – Trip to Keighley & Worth Valley railway with Scarborough CAMRA. August, date TBC – Crawl from Fulford into York. Wednesday August 13th – Monthly meeting at Judge’s Lodging, Lendal. September, date TBC – Crawl in Scarborough with the Scarborough branch. Wednesday September 10th – Monthly meeting at Tap & Spile, Monkgate. Wednesday October 15th – Monthly meeting at Brigantes, Micklegate. Wednesday November 12th – Monthly meeting at Victoria, Heslington Road. Wednesday December 10th – Monthly meeting at The Mount, The Mount. Wednesday January 9th – Monthly meeting at Ackhorne, St Martins Lane. Wednesday February 11th – Monthly meeting at Golden Slipper, Goodramgate.
